Z przyjemnością informujemy, że wykład plenarny „Gwiezdne trony: science fiction, gry wideo, polityka” wygłosi dr hab. Paweł Frelik, prof. UMCS.
Prof. Paweł Frelik jest laureatem Nagrody im. Thomasa D. Claresona (2017) przyznawanej za szczególne osiągnięcia w edukacji SF, działaniach edytorskich i organizacyjnych.
Paweł Frelik—profesor nadzwyczajny w Zakładzie Literatury i Kultury Amerykańskiej oraz dyrektor Centrum Badań Gier Wideo UMCS. Prowadzi również zajęcia z filmu i mediów audiowizualnych w Ośrodku Studiów Amerykańskich UW. Do jego zainteresowań naukowych należą science fiction, gry wideo, media cyfrowe i transmedia. Autor ponad 100 publikacji zagranicznych w tych dziedzinach, członek zespołów redakcyjnych dwu najważniejszych pism naukowych poświęconych fantastyce naukowej na świecie: „Science Fiction Studies” (USA) i „Extrapolation” (USA/Wlk. Brytania) oraz „Journal of Gaming and Virtual Worlds” (Wielka Brytania); redaktor serii książkowej „New Dimensions in Science Fiction” w University of Wales Press. W latach 2013–2014 był prezesem Science Fiction Research Association, jako pierwszy na tym stanowisku spoza Ameryki Północnej w ponad 40-letniej historii organizacji, a obecnie zajmuje stanowisko koordynatora sekcji literatury sf w International Association for the Fantastic in the Arts. W czerwcu br. Universitas wydał jego książkę Kultury wizualne science fiction.
We are proud to announce that our keynote speaker is going to be Professor Paweł Frelik from Maria Curie-Skłodowska University in Lublin, who will deliver a lecture entitled „Gwiezdne trony: science fiction, gry wideo, polityka”.
Prof. Pawel Frelik has won the Thomas D. Clareson Award (2017),which recognizes outstanding service activities-promotion of SF teaching and study, editing, reviewing, editorial writing, publishing, organizing meetings, mentoring, and leadership in SF/fantasy organizations
Paweł Frelik is Associate Professor in the Department of American Literature and Culture and Director of the Video Game Research Center at Maria Curie-Skłodowska University, Lublin. He also teaches film and audiovisual culture at the American Studies Center, University of Warsaw. His research interests include science fiction, video games, fantastic visualities, digital media, and transmedia storytelling. He has published widely in these fields, serves on the advisory boards of Science Fiction Studies, Extrapolation, and Journal of Gaming and Virtual Worlds, and is the co-editor of the New Dimensions in Science Fiction book series at the University of Wales Press. In 2013-2014, he was President of the Science Fiction Research Association, the first in the organization’s history from outside North America, and now serves as the Science Fiction Literature Division Head of the International Association for the Fantastic in the Arts. His new book Kultury wizualne science fiction [Visual Cultures of Science Fictions] was published by Universitas in June 2017.
